Unlike a traditional design firm, HausWerks starts planning for your construction during the design process. While we firmly believe that design needs to be complete prior to the commencement of any physical work (you need to KNOW what you are getting for your money), we also prepare you for the journey that new home making will take you on.
“God is in The Details”
One of the many ways HausWerks stands out is in the quality and craftsmanship of its construction. Because we are never just re-building a plan we have built many times before, detailing of each element must be carefully designed before it is skillfully executed by our team. Careful attention is paid to historical and stylistic accuracy, and we build “the way they used to” – never cutting corners or using inferior materials. With HausWerks, your home is built to last.
The Architectural Element
Because we are Architects, we can offer much more. Our homes incorporate many unusual details such as exotic wood inlays, a butler’s pantry, the “Family Landing” and our signature “Technology Niche”. Renovating an older home can often bring unanticipated challenges, and being Architects gives us the flexibility to craft design-specific solutions on site with no delay.
Current Projects
One of our current client-specific construction projects is 874 Stratford Road. This 1949 home had undergone many changes and revisions over the last fifty years, mushrooming into a ranch of indeterminate style, even losing a clear front entry in the process. In addition the home was suffering the structural effects from a previous fire where the reconstruction had been poorly executed. HausWerks worked with the existing plan to reconfigure and better utilize the interior space, pared away the unneeded areas and added over 1700 square feet. When complete in Spring 2007, the plan will allow natural light to pour through clerestory windows into a gracious and unusual master bedroom suite, a soaring media room, dining room and family entertainment area, and a totally rebuilt 2 car garage, among other spaces. The design incorporates elements that will help this family of four to get out the door to school in the morning efficiently, yet also allows for privacy and personal area for Mom and Dad.
Another current project is the residence at 917 Stratford Road. This ranch home suffered from an identity crisis, with 2 entrances and an undetermined style. Although it boasts a lot of wonderful interior touches, they go unappreciated in the warren of small rooms and circulation spaces that make the home dark and less livable than it should be. A major redesign of this home using the principles of Feng Shui (at the client’s request) has produced a design that gives the home a singular Japanese Modern style, without taking it out of context of its historic neighborhood. The plan adds over 2200 square feet which is designed to take advantage of views of the large private back yard, and adds space which accommodates both a master suite and larger family and entertaining spaces. In addition, the house creates a definitive break between public and private space that allows him to have an office and studio, while accommodating space for her community activism. This challenging design is scheduled to be realized December 2007.
